For all printed matter raw, unbleeched, recycled paper is used, for example in carrier bags, bookmarks and other in-house material to give it a 'street' feel as well as keeping it environmentally friendly!
The advertising around town consists of posters mainly on public transport and a couple of large banners mounted on building facades. The posters look like cumpled paper that's been has been recovered - again to give it a rough, urban feeling. Printed on it is short, clever and witty sayings about books and reading them and the Bleecker St Bookstore logo. A simple but effective campaign to conquer Manhattan's everyday literati!
The logotype is set in a traditional Serif typeface to underline the area of business in which Bleecker St Bookstore operates. I can cleary see the similarity between books crammed together on a bookshelf and skyscrapers densely packed together in a metropolitan skyline. Books - in all different sizes, formats, all with its unique cover art - together create the perfect (dis)harmony - just like the physical environment of a big city.
For the Bleecker St Bookstore symbol I therefore pictured three books resting on a shelf with one of them leaning against another book that bares the resemblence of one of New York's most iconic skyscrapers - the Empire State Building.
In Bleecker St Bookstore's marketing material the logo is concistently prominent and always in the foreground. Therefore the distinct logo is more or less given a life of its own.
The design concept for Bleecker Street Bookstore is contemporary and fresh using traditional advertising with a twist alongside extensive pr in social media channels.
